A cocoa pod infected with the fungal disease Frosty Pod Rot

Cocoa pest poses international threat

The cocoa industry risks financial ruin if a pest currently confined to Latin America continues to cross international borders, warns Dr Julie Flood, Global Director of Commodities at CABI.

 

Frosty Pod Rot infects actively growing cocoa pods and has rapidly replaced Witches Broom, another highly problematic pest, as the number one constraint on cocoa in any country where both exist. Media release

Sad News

CABI is sad to announce Executive Council member, Martyn Ibbotson, passed away this month after a road traffic accident.

Martyn was well known to many CABI staff, especially in the UK where he worked for Defra, and made a significant contribution to Executive Council. CABI Governance
